Raising a family & running a business right in the heart of ahwatukee

Beautiful weather, great schools and the ability to be active year round are just a few of the reasons Kevin and Holly Mitchell love living in Ahwatukee, but what they’re most grateful for is being able to raise their two darling little boys in the same community
where they also run their highly successful home remodeling business: Weeks and Mitchell Construction, located on the northeast corner of 48th and Ray (where the Bone-Appetit pet shop used to be).
For Kevin, starting his own business was part of
a natural progression. After getting a degree from
ASU’s School of Construction Management, he
began building homes for Centex. He then branched
off and started a “fix-and-flip” company with his parents,
Ben and Dean Weeks. When the housing boom
went bust, Kevin switched to a different business
model, fixing foreclosures so banks could put them
on the market. That was the turning point for Weeks
and Mitchell Construction as it quickly became
popular with banks and realtors for quality work.
“Kevin was born to be a contractor,” smiles Holly,
who moved to Arizona from a small town in Illinois
after graduating from college. “When I went to
buy my first home, it was one that Kevin had built
(through Centex). He was the superintendent and
did my final walk through — that’s how we met!”
she smiles.
The couple was married a year later. “I joined Weeks
and Mitchell four years ago, after working at Grand
Canyon University for almost 10 years,” says Holly.
“I do all of the bookkeeping and I run the design center.
Kevin’s brother and sister work here, too, so it’s
a really great, family-oriented business,” she says.
Kitchen and bathroom remodels keep Kevin and Holly hopping, but they do everything from flooring and countertop installs,
to room renovations, to total home remodels. “Our phone rings every day with new customers — we are so grateful! This
community really supports small businesses,” Holly says.
Balancing the work they love with children they adore is something
Kevin and Holly work hard at. Both 9-year-old Brady, a
3rd-grader at Sierra Elementary and 7-year-old, Cayden, a first
grader there, are busy little guys who love school and sports.
“Both of the boys are purple belts in karate, play baseball yearround,
and they’re in a running club and Cub Scouts, too,” smiles
Holly. “One of the things we love to do with the boys is go camping
in our RV. We load them up with our Yellow Lab, Nova, and
head up to Show Low or the Mogollon Rim. We also love to spend
time on the beaches of Rocky Point,” she says.
Yet the best part of getting away is being able to return to the
community they love. “Both Kevin and I are from small towns and
we love the small town feel that Ahwatukee has to offer,” shares
Holly. “This community has been so good to us. We can’t think of
a better place to raise our family!”
